Ordering dates online in Malaysia saves the drive, the parking and the queue. The bigger saving is less obvious. When your questions are answered before you pay, the box that turns up is the one you meant to buy, and nobody has to send it back. This guide follows an online order from choosing the date to opening the parcel.
Know the texture you want before you browse
Every date sold in Malaysia is imported, so a good listing names the variety and the country it came from. The fastest way to narrow the choice is texture. Soft dates include Ajwa from Madinah, which is small and near-black with finely wrinkled skin. Medjool dates are soft too: large, very soft and rich with a caramel taste. The variety first came from Morocco.

Semi-dry dates sit at the other end. Khudri from Saudi Arabia is a brown, semi-dry everyday date. Deglet Noor comes from Tunisia or Algeria and is golden and translucent. When it is sold still on the stem, Malaysian sellers call it kurma tangkai. Pick the texture first and the list of varieties gets short quickly.
What fresh means on a dates listing
You cannot squeeze the fruit through a screen, so the words on the page do the work. Rutab, also written rotab, is the soft, fresh-ripe stage. Tamr, or tamar, is the fully ripe, drier stage. A listing that says which one you are getting has already answered the first question you would ask in a shop.
Mazafati from Bam, in Iran's Kerman province, is one rotab example. It is dark, very soft and high in moisture, and it needs refrigeration. Because it is cold-stored, it is sold year-round. A rotab box in any month is normal, not a warning sign.

One household box or a carton for resale
This guide treats two kinds of buyer separately, because they need different things from a seller. A family wants a small pack with a clear weight. A shop or a reseller wants a price per kilo on a larger quantity and a quote they can plan around. Kurma Distributor's About page says it prices for both retail and wholesale buyers and delivers across Malaysia.
Grades need a closer look on larger orders. Labels such as A, AA, AAA or Jumbo are each importer's own size sorting, not an international standard. A Jumbo from one seller cannot be matched to a Jumbo from another on the label alone, so compare the net weight and work out the price per kilo yourself.

Shop-scale buyers can also read an older post on this site about wholesale prices, linked here as Dates Wholesaler Malaysia.
A quote request that saves a second message
This site answers questions and quote requests on WhatsApp, and the contact page lists the number, +60 17-312 2220. Rather than a bare "how much?", put everything in the first message: the variety, soft or semi-dry, the total weight, your postcode and the date you need it by. If the reply leaves out the origin or the net weight, ask for both before you pay.
Order before the Ramadan rush
Demand peaks before and during Ramadan. Hari Raya, wedding hantaran, kenduri and umrah gifts are the other busy times. Buying online does not change that calendar. It does let you place the order weeks early from home, while there is still time to switch varieties if your first choice is gone.
The first ten minutes after delivery
Open the parcel on the day it arrives and check the variety and weight against your order. Mazafati goes into the fridge straight away, because it needs refrigeration. If anything is wrong, photograph the label and the box and send the pictures in the same WhatsApp chat, so the whole order sits in one thread.
