This guide to wholesale dates prices in Malaysia works from one set of real figures: prices checked in October 2026 from one Malaysian date wholesaler, read on 27 October 2026. It asks a single question a distributor or a bulk buyer has to answer early. How much does moving from a 1kg pack to a 5kg carton actually change the price per kilo?
Where the figures come from
Every price below is the sale price shown on that wholesaler's listings at the time of the check. Every listing in the check also showed a higher regular price, so a figure quoted elsewhere at a different date may not match. The prices cover the dates only. The list carries no delivery charges.
Malaysia has no commercial date-growing trade, so every date in this guide is imported. Grade letters such as A, AA and AAA are each importer's own size sorting, not an international standard. Read them as labels on one seller's list, not as a promise that another seller's AA is the same fruit.
The 1kg pack against the 5kg carton
Ajwa, Safawi and Mariami each had 1kg packs and 5kg cartons in stock at the same time. The listing names do not always match word for word, so the table pairs each in-stock 1kg pack with the nearest in-stock 5kg grade name. The 1kg Ajwa AA pack (RM36) is left out, because the Ajwa AA 5kg carton was out of stock.
| 1kg pack | RM | Nearest 5kg carton | RM | RM/kg | Five 1kg packs cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ajwa A | 31 | Ajwa Premium A No.1 (Small) | 115 | 23.00 | RM155, or RM40 more |
| Ajwa AAA VIP (Large) | 44 | Ajwa Premium VIP AAA | 175 | 35.00 | RM220, or RM45 more |
| Safawi A | 35 | Safawi Premium A No.1 (Small) | 95 | 19.00 | RM175, or RM80 more |
| Safawi AAA Jumbo | 45 | Safawi Premium AAA | 163 | 32.60 | RM225, or RM62 more |
| Mariami AAA | 40 | Mariami AAA VIP | 148 | 29.60 | RM200, or RM52 more |
The widest gap is on Safawi. Five 1kg Safawi A packs come to RM175, while the Safawi Premium A No.1 (Small) carton is RM95. That is RM35 a kilo against RM19 a kilo. The narrowest gap is on Ajwa A, at RM40 across five kilos.
Medjool: one box against a carton of boxes
The Medjool listings are labelled as Palestinian fruit, and the smallest one in stock was a single 900g Jumbo box at RM70, which works out to RM77.78 a kilo. Eight of those boxes would cost RM560. The 8 × 900g Jumbo listing was RM448 (RM62.22 a kilo), which is RM112 less for the same number of boxes.
The other in-stock Medjool listings were the 12 × 500g Jumbo at RM355 (RM59.17 a kilo), the Premium Jumbo 5kg carton at RM280 (RM56 a kilo) and the Super Jumbo 5kg carton at RM315 (RM63 a kilo).
When the bigger pack is not the cheaper kilo
Pack size is not the whole story. On Medjool, the 7.2kg 8 × 900g listing cost more per kilo than the 5kg Premium Jumbo carton, RM62.22 against RM56. On Safawi, the Premium Jumbo 5kg carton was RM195, or RM39 a kilo, which is more per kilo than the 1kg Safawi A pack at RM35. Within the in-stock Safawi 5kg cartons alone, grade spread the price from RM16 a kilo (Premium A No.2, Mini) to that RM39 a kilo.
So compare like with like. Put the grade name and the pack weight side by side, divide the price by the kilos, and only then decide whether the carton is the better buy for you.
What was out of stock
Several listings could not be ordered at the time of the check. This is not the full out-of-stock list, only the ones closest to the packs above. On Ajwa, they included the AA 5kg carton (RM145), the Premium A No.2 (Mini) 5kg carton (RM95) and the 1kg VVIP Jumbo pack (RM55). The 1kg Safawi AA pack (RM40) was out of stock too. All four pouch listings were out of stock: Ajwa A 200g × 24, Safawi AA 200g × 24, Mariami AA 200g × 24 and Mariami AA 400g × 12. Every Medjool Large listing in the check was out of stock as well, whether as a 5kg carton, 24 × 250g or 8 × 1kg.
Before you price a carton
Ask for the exact listing name, not only the variety. Ask whether the figure is a sale price or the regular price, and ask what delivery adds, since none of the figures here include it. Then work out the price per kilo yourself. For anything about this site, start with the about us page, or use the contact page, which lists a WhatsApp number.
