Unanticipated Advantages Of Drinking Green Tea

Why green tea sits well next to a kurma display

Retailers who stock both green tea and kurma often put them on the same shelf without thinking much about why it works. It works because both products travel the same way: dry, sealed, and sensitive to humidity. If you already have a system for keeping kurma boxes away from moisture, you have most of what you need for loose-leaf tea too.

Green tea leaf oxidises fast once a tin is opened. Kurma, by contrast, can sit in a sealed box for months without losing much. The mismatch matters at the counter: don't let a slow-moving tea tin sit open next to an open kurma tray for display purposes. Use a sealed glass jar with a small side window instead, and refill it from stock rather than leaving the whole tin exposed.

Pairing that actually sells

A tray of Ajwa or Safawi next to a small cup of brewed green tea gives a customer something to taste while they decide. This is standard practice at pasar malam stalls and it works just as well at a fixed shop counter. The tea cuts the sweetness of the kurma, so customers taste the fruit's flavour rather than just sugar — which tends to move higher-grade stock, since the texture and origin become the selling point instead of price alone.

For distributors supplying multiple outlets, a simple combo pack (100g green tea + 500g kurma) sold as a single SKU reduces handling for the retailer and gives them one clean price point for a gift-style purchase. It's a small addition to an order, not a new product line.

Storage checklist for a mixed dry-goods run

  • Keep tea tins away from direct light — a shelf under fluorescent lighting all day will flatten the flavour within weeks.
  • Store kurma boxes off the floor, same as any dried fruit stock, to avoid moisture wicking up from concrete.
  • Rotate stock on a first-in-first-out basis for both; tea has a shorter shelf life than kurma, so check tins more often.
