4 Healthy Habits We Love To To Hate

Long shifts on the loading floor make some habits easy to skip. These four keep resurfacing when the team talks about what actually gets them through a full day — including on the days nobody feels like bothering.

Drink water before the first coffee, not after

Most people reach for coffee first thing and only think about water once they're already thirsty. By then the morning's half gone. A glass of water before anything else costs ten seconds and nothing more, but it's usually the first habit to slip once the dispatch schedule runs early.

Pack a snack that survives a hot locker

A distribution floor doesn't always have a fridge close by, and the vending machine option is usually chips or a chocolate bar. Dried dates solve this in a plain, practical way: no cold storage, no wrapper mess, and a handful holds off the 3pm slump better than a sugar crash does. Whether the stock on hand that week is locally grown or an imported batch (see our rundown of Malaysian and imported kurma), Gred A keeps for weeks in a desk drawer or a locker without spoiling — which matters more on a warehouse floor than any taste comparison.

Take the full ten-minute break

It's tempting to keep moving through a short break to finish the shift faster, but the body doesn't clock overtime that way — it just gets tired sooner. Staff who sit down for the full ten minutes and actually eat something report fewer afternoon slumps than the ones who eat standing at the pallet.

Write down what's actually eaten, not what should be

Not a diet plan, just noticing. A couple of weeks of writing down real meals — including the 4pm chocolate bar — tends to be more useful than any resolution, because it shows the pattern instead of the intention. Most people are surprised by how little water and how much sugar the log actually shows once it's in front of them.

None of these four are difficult. They're just the ones people drop first when a shift runs long, which is exactly why they're worth keeping.
